About the coast of Sinaloa

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

In northern Sinaloa, Topolobampo is a port on the Sea of Cortés, for cargo and passengers. In Navolato, the shoreline is made up of Altata Bay, the beaches of El Tambor, Yameto and Tetuán, and Isla Cortés. There the Culiacán River flows into the Gulf of California, at the Ensenada de Pabellón. In the south are the port of Mazatlán and, in Escuinapa, Teacapán.

The south of the state shares Marismas Nacionales with Nayarit, a complex of coastal lagoons, mangroves and estuaries that connects to the Pacific through the Teacapán inlet, among others, and is a Ramsar site. Sinaloa's islands in the gulf, protected since 1978, are part of the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Islas del Golfo de California and of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Islas y Áreas Protegidas del Golfo de California, inscribed in 2005. The coast has sea turtle sanctuaries, such as Playa Ceuta, between Culiacán, Elota and San Ignacio, and Playa El Verde Camacho, north of Mazatlán.
