About Playas Hoy
A forecast tells you whether it will be sunny. It does not tell you whether the sea is calm, whether there is an official warning on that stretch of coast, whether sargassum was detected nearby or what the latest water monitoring said. Playas Hoy brings that together, beach by beach, and answers one question: which beach today?
One beach at a time
Today there are 288 beaches in 17 coastal states. Each one has its own page, with its coordinates, municipality and state checked by a person, and with its local time: the assessment is always for today at that beach.
Real data, with its source
Each piece of data on the page says where it comes from and when it is from. Some rules that do not change:
- No data means no data: if a source does not respond, the page says so instead of showing a made-up value.
- A monitoring result or a satellite image is shown with its date, never as today's condition.
- An estimate is not presented as a direct observation.
- Spanish and English use the same data and the same rules.
What Playas Hoy is not
Playas Hoy is an independent site: it is not a government site and does not speak for the institutions whose sources it uses. It does not replace official warnings or lifeguard instructions either; if in doubt at the beach, follow the local authorities.
Who is behind it
Playas Hoy is a product of GTM Labs, a technology company from Porto Alegre, Brazil, that builds and runs digital products that organize information and simplify choices.
