About the coast of Zihuatanejo

Zihuatanejo is the seat of the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, on the Costa Grande of Guerrero. At La Madera beach, archaeological excavations show a fishing village from around 500 BCE, and the port kept fishing, its original activity, as it took up tourism. It has been a Pueblo Mágico since 2023. Its beaches ring the bay of Zihuatanejo: Playa Principal, in front of the town center; La Madera and La Ropa, with calm water; and Las Gatas, in the south. Las Gatas has a coral community and a stone breakwater that, according to a legend, a Tarascan ruler had built.
