Playa Principal, also called the municipal beach, is in downtown Zihuatanejo, at the head of the bay and sheltered from the open sea. Next to it is the pier, with a fish market, where boats leave for Playa Las Gatas, and there is constant boat traffic in this part of the bay. It is lined by the Paseo del Pescador, a tree-lined walkway between the archaeological museum and the fishing pier, with seafood restaurants and crafts shops. It is a gathering place for local families, especially on weekends.
