Playa La Madera is on the east side of Zihuatanejo Bay, close to downtown: it can be reached on foot from Playa Principal along a seaside walkway. It has light sand with some pebbly stretches and usually gentle surf. The hillside behind it holds restaurants, bungalows and hotels overlooking the bay. Fragments of pre-Hispanic figurines were found on the point known as La Madera, suggesting there was once an ancient shrine there.
