Ixtapa is on the Costa Grande of Guerrero, in the municipality of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, a few kilometers from Zihuatanejo. It is a FONATUR Centro Integralmente Planeado. Its main beach is El Palmar, in the first section of the Zona Hotelera. Playa Quieta, reached by a road along the Ixtapa coastal lagoon, faces Isla Ixtapa. The island, covered in low deciduous forest and with cliffs at its western end, has the beaches of Cuachalalate, del Coral and Honda.
