About the coast of La Paz

La Paz lies at the southern end of Bahía de La Paz, on the Gulf of California; the bay opens to the east, toward the Espíritu Santo and Partida islands. Across from the city, the El Mogote sand barrier shelters the entrance to the port; next to it, the Ensenada de La Paz is a shallow coastal lagoon surrounded by mangroves. Its beaches include El Coromuel, El Caimancito, El Tesoro, Pichilingue and El Tecolote. Balandra, with mangroves, dunes and beaches, has been a Flora and Fauna Protection Area since 2012, and the marine zone of the Espíritu Santo Archipelago has been a National Park since 2007.
