Shallow bay north of La Paz, along the road to Pichilingue, within the Balandra Flora and Fauna Protection Area, decreed in 2012 and managed by CONANP. Its waters are calm and its sandy bottom so shallow that much of the bay can be crossed on foot, and it is ringed by several small beaches and a mangrove estuary. On its shore stands El Hongo, a mushroom-shaped rock carved by erosion that has become an emblem of La Paz. Entry is regulated by CONANP.
