Uaymitún is a small coastal settlement in the municipality of Ixil, on the road from Progreso to Telchac Puerto, about 50 kilometers from Mérida. It sits on the strip between the Gulf of Mexico and the ciénaga (coastal wetland), with coastal dunes and mangroves. The sea off the beach usually has small waves. At the edge of the wetland there is a lookout tower for watching flamingos and other birds. Most of its houses are vacation homes, and the settlement has been merging with the Chicxulub Puerto area.
