About Playa Las Coloradas

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Las Coloradas is a town in the municipality of Río Lagartos, on the northern coast of Yucatán, on the sand bar that separates the Gulf of Mexico from the ría. Its economy revolves around salt: behind the town lie the ponds of one of the country's main salt works, pink from the salt concentration and the microorganisms living in it; swimming in those ponds is not allowed. The beach faces the Gulf. The whole area is part of the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.
