About Playa El Cuyo
By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated
El Cuyo is a fishing village in the municipality of Tizimín, at the eastern end of the Yucatán coast, on a sand bar between the Gulf of Mexico and the lagoon. It is part of the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, with mangroves where flamingos and other birds can be seen. It has a lighthouse and a long, gently sloping white-sand beach, with shallow water near the shore. Waves are usually under a meter high; in winter, with northers, they reach two meters. Kitesurfers come for the wind, especially in spring.
