Beach in Puerto Peñasco, northwest of Cerro de la Ballena (Whale Hill), the volcanic rock hill where the port began and where the Malecón and the fish market are. This is where the stretch of sand begins that runs northwest, through Sandy Beach, to Cholla Bay (La Choya). Its waters are generally calm. The tides are wide: sea level rises and falls several meters. It is close to downtown in the city that visitors from Arizona and California, who drive down from the border, call Rocky Point.
