About Playa Golfo de Santa Clara

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Beach at the fishing town of Golfo de Santa Clara, in the municipality of San Luis Río Colorado, at the northern tip of the Gulf of California, where the Colorado River flows out into a broad delta. It is reached by state highway from San Luis Río Colorado, about 115 km away. The town grew up in the 1930s around fishing, still its main activity; the desert begins right behind the beach, with dunes that draw adventure tourism. The tides are very wide, several meters. Since 1996 the area has been protected by the Alto Golfo de California y Delta del Río Colorado Biosphere Reserve.
