About Playa Manzanillo

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Playa Manzanillo is in the Las Playas neighborhood, beside Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán, in the traditional part of the port of Acapulco, inside the bay and sheltered from the open sea. It sits next to the Paseo del Pescador, the promenade that links it on foot with Playa Tlacopanocha. Its name dates from 1663 and is attributed either to settlers from Manzanillo, Colima, or to manzanillo trees, which bear toxic fruit. For decades it served as a boatyard and graveyard for vessels, before the beach and the Paseo del Pescador were restored.
