Playa Zacatal is at the southwestern end of Isla del Carmen, in Ciudad del Carmen, near the El Zacatal Bridge. The bridge, about 3.8 kilometers long and opened in 1994, crosses the mouth of Laguna de Términos and links the island with the Atasta peninsula. The island is part of the Laguna de Términos Flora and Fauna Protection Area.
