About the coast of San Felipe

San Felipe lies at the northern end of the Gulf of California, on Bahía de San Felipe, south of Punta San Felipe. The point is rocky, with Cerro del Machorro; to the southeast run flat, sandy beaches. In the northern gulf the waves are minimal in height, with no strong breakers near San Felipe. The tidal range is large: at low tide it uncovers a wide strip of seabed. It is a fishing port, with fishing camps since the mid-1920s. To the north, the Colorado River delta is part of the Alto Golfo de California y Delta del Río Colorado Biosphere Reserve.
