About the coast of Ensenada
By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated
Ensenada lies on the Pacific coast, on Bahía de Todos Santos, between Punta San Miguel to the north and Punta Banda to the south. The Islas de Todos Santos partly close it off to the west. Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo reached the bay in 1542, and Sebastián Vizcaíno named it Ensenada de Todos Santos in 1602. Playa Hermosa, the city beach, is long and sandy, with constant wave action. To the south, a sand barrier separates the Estero de Punta Banda, a coastal lagoon and Ramsar site, from the sea. On the Punta Banda peninsula, lined with rocky cliffs, is La Bufadora, which shoots seawater into the air.
