About Playa Lechuguillas

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Playa Lechuguillas is on the coast of the municipality of Vega de Alatorre, in north-central Veracruz, near Federal Highway 180 (Veracruz–Nautla section). Its main feature is the mouth of the Lechuguillas stream, which forms a shallow estuary with vegetation along its banks. Dunes form beside the beach. In December 2023 the site was decreed a federal protected area in the sanctuary category, covering about 147 hectares in the municipalities of Vega de Alatorre and Alto Lucero, dedicated to protecting sea turtles, including the Kemp's ridley (Lepidochelys kempii).
