About the coast of Tulum

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Tulum lies on the Mexican Caribbean coast and is the southern end of the Riviera Maya, the stretch of coast that runs from Puerto Morelos to Tulum. Its archaeological site, called Zamá in 16th-century sources, was a Maya trading port built on the coast. Some of its buildings served as guides for passing between the reefs of the Mesoamerican Reef System. The archaeological site lies within Tulum National Park. Near Tulum, on the eastern coast of the peninsula, is the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site since 1987.
