About Playa Puerto Morelos

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

The main beach of the town of Puerto Morelos, in front of the malecón and the downtown pier, between Cancún and Playa del Carmen. The coast is protected by the barrier reef, which lies very close to shore, so it gets very little surf; the reef is part of the Parque Nacional Arrecife de Puerto Morelos, decreed in 1998. Next to the beach stands the leaning lighthouse, tilted by Hurricane Beulah in 1967 and now the town's emblem. Fishing boats and reef-tour boats leave from the pier. Puerto Morelos is considered the oldest natural port in Quintana Roo.
