About Playa Bahía de Matanchén

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

A beach at the head of Matanchén Bay, about 7 km southeast of the port of San Blas, next to the village of Matanchén. The bay has several kilometers of sandy beaches, with Las Islitas at one end and Los Cocos, Aticama and Santa Cruz to the south. Matanchén is famous in surfing: its wave was once listed by Guinness as the world's longest, although hurricanes later filled part of the bay with sand. It is also a gateway to La Tovara, a protected mangrove estuary.
