About the coast of San Blas

San Blas, seat of the municipality of the same name, is a Pacific port in Nayarit. In 1768 the Spanish Crown established it as a port and shipyard for expeditions to the Californias. On the Bahía de Matanchén, Playa Las Islitas lies in a sheltered bay and is known for surfing. Playa El Borrego has about 3 km of sand and draws those looking for big waves. Nearby are estuaries and mangroves, such as La Tovara and the El Pozo estuary, and the area is part of the Marismas Nacionales Ramsar wetland. San Blas has been a Pueblo Mágico since June 2023.
