About Playa Chacala

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

A small shell-shaped bay in the municipality of Compostela, about 100 km north of Puerto Vallarta. The beach, roughly one kilometer long, forms a crescent sheltered from the open sea, with generally calm water, and ringed by jungle-covered hills. It is reached by a paved road of about 10 km off Federal Highway 200, near Las Varas. Chacala is a fishing village, and its name comes from Nahuatl and is associated with shrimp. The bay has history: Father Kino's expedition set out from here in 1683.
