About Playa Tecuanillo
By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated
Open-ocean beach in the village of Tecuanillo, in the municipality of Tecomán, about 13 kilometers from the city by state highway. It is a beach with strong waves. It has fine dark-gray sand and is about 5 kilometers long. Next to the village an estuary lined with mangroves and home to many bird species meets the sea, separated from it by a sandbar. It is a little-developed place that is also used for camping. El Tecuanillo beach gives its name to the Playa Boca de Apiza-El Chupadero-El Tecuanillo Sanctuary, a federal protected natural area for sea turtle nesting.
