Playón de Hornos is a stretch of beach in the port of Veracruz, beside the malecón and Boulevard Manuel Ávila Camacho, next to Villa del Mar. Like the port's other bay beaches, it generally has low waves. By the 1960s it was already a wide, shallow beach popular with families, and for decades it hosted beach soccer matches. Since 1992 part of the playón has been occupied by the Veracruz Aquarium, built there for its closeness to the tourist zone and to a water source. Offshore lies the northern group of reefs of the Parque Nacional Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano.
