About Playa Escolleras
By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated
Beach next to the jetties of Puerto Chiapas, formerly called Puerto Madero, in the municipality of Tapachula, about 30 km from the city. The two jetties, each about 900 meters long, mark out the port's entrance channel. Along with San Benito, Las Escolleras is one of the port's most visited beaches, with palapas facing the sea. The sand is coarse and dark. This is a coast with strong surf: there are heavy breakers close to shore and high waves near the entrance channel, and the port has groins to slow the erosion they cause.
