Beach of the town of Puerto Arista, in the municipality of Tonalá, on the northern coast of Chiapas facing the Gulf of Tehuantepec, 22 km from the municipal seat and about 16 km off Federal Highway 200. It is part of some 32 km of wide open-sea beach, with fine, gray volcanic sand and the Sierra Madre in the background. The surf is sometimes heavy, and there are rip currents, mostly beyond the second line of breakers. The town stretches along a boulevard parallel to the beach. These beaches are a sea turtle sanctuary decreed in 1986.
