About Playa Maruata

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Light-sand beach in front of Maruata, in the municipality of Aquila, on the land of the Nahua indigenous community of Pómaro, which manages access and services. The coastline forms several bays and coves with arches, caves and rocky islets; the best-known formation is the "Dedo de Dios" (Finger of God), a rock rising from the sea. In the sheltered coves the water is usually calmer than in the open sea, where surf and currents can be strong. It is part of the Playa de Maruata y Colola Sanctuary, a federal protected natural area for sea turtle nesting, especially the black turtle.
