Beach along the Loreto malecón, the downtown waterfront promenade, near the mission of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, founded in 1697 as the starting point of Spanish colonization of the Californias. Isla Coronados is visible from the shore. Its waters are usually calm. The sea in front of town is part of Bahía de Loreto National Park, decreed in 1996, and excursions to its islands leave from here.
